Cheating PSA
I thoroughly enjoyed making this PSA. The whole point of this project was to catch the watcher's attention and then teach them something meaningful. The idea of the film was to show a conversation that could be interpreted two different ways. Upon first watching the PSA, one would think that the boy is seeing another girl behind the main character's back. However, toward the end of the PSA, it is revealed that he actually passed one of her assignments off as his own, cheating off of her, not on her.
We spent about two weeks making this film. We lined up our actors, set up a filming day, gathered equipment, created the set, and filmed it. We edited it for the next couple days and then presented it to the class. On filming day, we learned last minute that the guy we had cast couldn't make it to the set, so we scrambled and asked Trevor to fill in. He did a fantastic job, and the PSA still turned out great. Along the way, I learned a lot about the effort that goes into imagining and creating the set. I had never been the Art Director up to this point, so it was a real eye-opening experience for me. For this film, I completely changed what I usually do on set, and I had a lot of fun! The class loved our film, and I personally think it feels professional.
Strangers
In this story, two people with severe social issues are trying to overcome them. Max is always worried about what others think about him, and Violet struggles when talking to strangers. Natalie wrote and an adorable script about how Max and Violet meet and learn to overcome their social anxiety. We spent about three weeks working on the short film process but were really only able to spend about one week on this particular film. We originally were going to film a story about a kid whose parents forgot his birthday and he throws a party for himself. We started filming but ran into some logistical issues. We set aside everything we had already filmed and moved on to Natalie's script instead. We filmed and edited it over just a couple of days. Along the way, I learned what it feels like to have to know when to quit. I have always been one to persevere, and having to set the original story down was really difficult for me. The people that watched our film seemed to like it, but we had some comments about lighting and overall professionalism. I agree, but we made this video in a matter of days. I am proud of this story but am not proud of the execution.
Class Time
In class, when I wasn't working on a specific film project, I made sure I was still doing something meaningful. One of my favorite side projects this year was to take one super-successful film and compare it to one that that flopped. I haven't had a lot of time to work on it recently, so it's not finalized. All I can say right now is that there are specific factors that contribute to a successful film.
When I was working on a film project, I made sure I took advantage of my time. As a person with a very busy schedule, I don't have time to sit around and do nothing. And, because I am so busy, I didn't really have the time I wish I had to put in extra work for my videos outside of filming. When my specific job role was complete, I tried to help others. For instance, as Art Director, I really have nothing to do with the editing process. However, I sat near the editor and gave my two cents when it was asked for.

Guest Speakers
Our guest speakers were so cool! I loved learning about the real-world application of this program, and I hope we hear from more!Mr. Lamb came and talked to us about commercials that he makes for his college, and offered to let us use his professional equipment. Joshua told us about how video can apply to other industries. It was sick!
