Friday the 13th's Blood Drive

Last Friday, my video class went to our school’s Annual Fall Blood Drive. We captured footage of the event, learning how to hold a camera steady without relying on the use of a tripod. In the process of creating the story, we had to first how to learn how to properly hold a camera, a microphone, and a list of questions all at the same time. We then went inside the Drive and filmed the event. I interviewed a couple of people, but my audio was, sadly, pretty awful. So I borrowed some footage from a couple people in my class. Along the way, I learned how to properly hold a camera and how to film a live event. Because a live event in live, you can’t really plan out what you are going to film before you get in there. So I had to think on the fly and plan my video on the fly. If I could do things any differently, I would choose to preview the area before I went in to film. I would have better learned what I could and could not film. I would keep my same tactics though. I got up in people’s ...

Don’t H8 Don8

Don’t H8 Don8 In spring of 2014, a blood drive was held at Olathe Northwest. Pedro von Simson did a story on how the drive impacted the school. He did a fantastic job of getting a wide variety of shots and followed basic interview rules such as the 180 degree rule and the rule of thirds. His shots were fairly steady, and he had a nice story. He could have focused his shots better, but overall it was fantastic. I love the way he used his B-Roll when his interview was playing. I will definitely incorporate that into my story. He must have really stuck his neck out and had confidence when filming this, because he got some really cool shots and interviewed many people. He got this really cool XWS. He must have gotten it by getting up on the catwalks above the Flex Theatre. That takes real guts, and can't really be taught in the classroom. He did a fantastic job of composing his interviews. He followed the Rule of Thirds beautifully. I honestly have no idea how he could have improve...

Olive Kickboxing

My video is about a girl named Olive who is a kickboxer. She spends much of her time at the gym, and really loves it. I honestly struggled to find a wide variety of shots for my story. I needed something other than Olive punching a bag, so I decided to film the preparation process and the ending process. Even though I didn’t end up using them in video, it still gave me other ideas for new thing to do in my later works. I learned a new way to film, and a new way to do things, and I really love it.
